Heavy Weather Plan

Writer: kjohnstone234kjohnstone234

My heavy weather plan is to capture bad weather throughout Scotland’s winter. To achieve this, I would explore locally across Fife and further away such as Dunkeld. I would like to capture intense waves crashing upon rocks, cliffs, or lighthouses. Throughout winter Scotland coasts can experience thick frost and intense foggy conditions which if in the right location could create an amazing image, wither it been photographed in a forest or close up shots of severely frozen berries it will give viewers the illusion on how cold it is. Another image I would like to capture is again on the beach shooting a rough sea and stormy clouds. An image I would like to achieve is up in Glencoe or Loch Lomond that have breathe taking scenery and can be the home of the stormiest of skies with snow tipped mountains and gushing rivers and waterfalls.

To achieve these images, I would use fast shutter speeds such as 1/125 secs or faster the freeze the action of the waves crashing. Using a slow shutter speed for some of the images such as 1 sec as this does not completely smooth over the sea, this shutter speed is perfect enough the add technique but create and keep drama. Shooting waterfalls or rivers we would want it to be slower but not much as we want to keep the dramatic skies, so exploration with longer shutter speeds will have to be done. Majority of the time a large aperture would be used in order to ensure the whole image is sharp and in focus. The ISO setting depends on the weather and lighting conditions.
